Adidas Originals X Vespa - Spring/Summer 2010 Collection
Italian scooter line, Vespa has long evolved past its humble roots as a single product brand since it was founded in the 1940s. Since its first scooter was manufactured by Piaggio in 1946, Vespa has grown into a cultural icon evoking imageries of summer vacations zipping through Italian urban landscape; a irrevocable being amidst the looming historical architecture transporting the young, hip and free.
In this essence, Vespa and adidas Originals both share a rich heritage but at the same time, are culturally ingrained and as relevant today as it was yesterday, and will be tomorrow. The collaboration brings two companies from vastly different industries with the same character and timeless cultural impact into one tangible line-up. The collaboration has been ongoing for a while now and has brought both fans of adidas Originals and Vespa under one roof.
For Spring/Summer 2010, as the weather gets warmer and roads become friendlier towards Vespa scooters, the duo has created a series of apparel, footwear and accessories that reflect the rich craftsmanship and heritage, retro aesthetics of both labels. Graphic tees featuring Vespa scooters and double knit pique track jackets are co-branded with adidas Originals three-stripes, the Trefoil logo and the Vespa logo. Bringing layering into the game, a simple black field jacket co-branded with Vespa logo on the front and adidas Trefoil on the reverse is easy to wear and work with all wardrobes.
Aside from the solid collection of apparel, the collaboration also features sneakers that reflect the labels’ shared vision. The sneakers in this collection come in a range of cuts, including a sleek Vespa S featuring a leather and corduroy upper, and a playful Vespa Elestar W, which is crafted from a mix of jersey and suede with staggered eyelets and striped piping. For those who love the retro earth tones, The Vespa PX Canvas and Vespa Casual Lux works in brown, white and tan that is perfect for pairing with anything from chinos to khakis and different shades of denim. Last but not least, the retro leather Vespa Sir Bag might not seem large but is packed with all the functions a urban traveler might need (mobile phone pocket, cardholder, adjustable shoulder strap…).
The collection is now available in adidas Originals stores, select retailers and online at adidas. Even if one doesn’t necessarily own a Vespa and might not be riding breezing through the streets on one anytime soon, these are absolutely street ready and perfect for those who appreciate a good dose of heritage in their closet.
